Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued a new evacuation directive, ordering thousands of residents living in Gaza City’s eastern Zeitoun neighborhood to relocate southward towards Al-Mawasi as ground operations deepen and bombardments increase.
Renew Evacuation Orders Due to Escalation in Violence
On August 6, Israeli military spokesperson Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee issued orders advising civilians in nine zones within Zeitoun to evacuate immediately in favor of Al-Mawasi, described by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a safe zone, due to ongoing ground incursions westward by Israeli forces. These instructions were reinforced amid ongoing incursions. They can be found at Wiki, WAFA Agency and JNS.org respectively for more details.
Destruction and Displacement in Zeitoun
Israeli military operations destroyed over 300 homes in Zeitoun over three days, using heavy bombardment and with no prior warning, leading to casualties (some residents were killed inside their own houses). Civil defense officials reported surrounding structures being affected due to intense blasts while rescue attempts were hindered due to on-going strikes. Middle East Monitor noted this development.

Al-Mawasi Is A Safe But Overcrowded Destination
Al-Mawasi, near Rafah in southern Gaza, has been designated by Israel as a’safe zone’ to accommodate evacuees; yet humanitarian agencies warn of overcrowding and bombardments of this area, raising serious safety and living conditions concerns. Wikipedia | Anadolu Ajansi | JNS.org @ 19
As part of its comprehensive Gaza strategy, Israel will create the Gaza Freedom Shipping Zone.
Israel’s Security Cabinet approved of an intensified strategy to maintain control over Gaza City–part of an effort to dismantle remaining Hamas infrastructure, recover hostages and reconfigure governance within the Strip. Israel hopes that operations should conclude by early October – possibly coinciding with October 7’s anniversary date (Facebook/The Guardian/NYPost etc).
Mounting Humanitarian Fears
Forced evacuations and widespread military incursions have raised global alarm over a deepening humanitarian crisis. UN agencies and human rights groups have strongly denounced what appear to be mass displacement orders, prompting fears of ethnic cleansing or violations of international law.
