Iran slams Israeli strikes in Lebanon as ‘ceasefire violation’

Iran has strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, calling them a “clear violation” of the ceasefire agreement. The statement came shortly after Israeli forces carried out targeted strikes in southern Lebanon, raising concerns of renewed escalation in the region.

Iran’s response to the strikes

In a statement released by its foreign ministry, Iran said the attacks undermine the fragile calm established after weeks of intense fighting. “These strikes are a blatant breach of the ceasefire and international law,” the ministry spokesperson said. “Israel is once again destabilizing the region through aggressive actions.”

Iran reaffirmed its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and called on the international community to hold Israel accountable. It also warned that continued violations could lead to wider regional instability.

Israeli strikes raise concerns

According to Lebanese officials, the Israeli airstrikes targeted what Israel described as positions linked to militant groups operating near the border. The strikes reportedly caused damage to infrastructure and injuries to several people.

The Israeli military claimed the attacks were a response to “security threats” near its northern border, stating that the strikes were aimed at preventing further cross-border incidents. However, no major clashes were reported immediately after the strikes.

International observers have expressed concern that such incidents could threaten the ceasefire, which was reached after weeks of heightened tensions along the Israel-Lebanon frontier.

Regional and international reaction

The Iranian government urged the United Nations and other global actors to intervene and ensure the ceasefire is respected. “The world must act to prevent further violations and escalation,” the spokesperson said.

Lebanon’s foreign ministry also condemned the strikes, calling them a breach of the country’s sovereignty. Meanwhile, several humanitarian groups working in southern Lebanon warned that renewed violence could worsen the already fragile humanitarian situation in border areas.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said it was monitoring the situation closely and called on all parties to exercise restraint. UN officials have repeatedly stressed the need for both sides to avoid any action that could destabilize the ceasefire agreement.

A fragile ceasefire under strain

The ceasefire, brokered with international support, was meant to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Lebanon after a period of cross-border attacks. While the truce has mostly held, sporadic incidents and accusations of violations have raised fears that the situation could deteriorate again.

Analysts say the current ceasefire remains fragile, and even limited military actions can quickly lead to a broader conflict. “These kinds of strikes risk unraveling months of diplomatic efforts,” one regional expert explained.

Calls for restraint

The Iranian government reiterated that it supports regional stability and opposes actions that threaten peace. “Iran stands with the Lebanese people and calls for respect for their sovereignty,” the foreign ministry said.

International diplomatic efforts are expected to intensify in the coming days to prevent the situation from escalating further.

For now, the ceasefire remains in place, but the latest Israeli strikes and Iran’s sharp response have once again highlighted the volatility of the situation along the Israel-Lebanon border.
