Historical Perspective and Diplomatic Initiatives

Pakistan has long embraced Palestinian self-determination, denouncing Israeli actions in Gaza. In 2024, they hosted a “Save Gaza” sit-in at D-Chowk in Islamabad to demand swift action by the international community and their government to end the blockade and hostilities there. Protests resulted in clashes with police while underlining deep public concern regarding Gaza.
President Donald Trump’s recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Gaza aimed to bring an end to two-years of fighting in Gaza, with provisions for withdrawal of Israeli forces and creation of new governing mechanisms in Gaza. Unfortunately, renewed Israeli strikes have cast doubt upon all parties’ commitment to honour the terms of this peace deal. According to Politico: “All parties involved must do everything possible to uphold its terms.”
Calls for International Action.

Pakistan’s condemnation of Israel’s actions echoes an international call for accountability and compliance with international law. Human rights organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have raised their voices against civilian casualties caused by Israeli strikes. Furthermore, the UN has encouraged all parties to respect a ceasefire agreement and work toward lasting peace that addresses Palestinian aspirations and legitimate rights.
