Pakistan has strongly supported Iran’s right to self-defense following a series of U.S. airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, calling these military operations a clear violation of international law and urging global communities not to escalate further tensions in the region.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a statement Sunday condemning U.S. strikes against nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan and warned that unilateral military actions undermine regional peace and security.
“Pakistan expresses grave concern at recent developments and views the airstrikes against Iranian territory as an act that violates international norms and the UN Charter,” read a statement released by Pakistan. Every sovereign nation has the right to defend themselves from aggression; we fully endorse Iran’s legitimate right of self-defence.
As tensions continue to escalate following the high-profile U.S. military operation, major regional players are making increasingly strong statements in response. According to Pentagon sources, these strikes aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities after intelligence showed Tehran was nearing nuclear weapon production capacity. Former President Donald Trump publicly supported and endorsed this operation, calling it a message sent “to rogue regimes.”
Iran, in response, has threatened retaliation against any U.S. actions taken outside of international diplomacy framework. While not yet taking military action, Tehran has escalated rhetoric and withdrew from remaining voluntary oversight arrangements with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Pakistan’s response mirrors that of regional powers like China and Russia, who also condemned U.S. action as destabilizing. Islamabad warned that continued military engagement could ignite wider conflicts across the Middle East that have disastrous effects.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated in a television interview: “The region cannot afford another war.” Dialog and diplomacy should prevail instead of military interventions; all parties involved must act responsibly and with restraint.
Pakistan called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene an emergency session, in order to discuss its implications and develop a collective stance against any breach of sovereignty by any nation, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office. “All Muslims must stand united against such violations,” it noted.
Iranian Embassy officials welcomed Pakistan’s statement as reflecting shared principles, regional solidarity, and respect for international law. Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s timely and just stand.
International responses remain mixed. While Israel and several Gulf allies of the U.S. praised the strikes as necessary steps to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, European Union leaders have called for de-escalation and diplomatic negotiations as the way forward. Meanwhile, the UN has issued an appeal urging all parties involved to renounce further violence and engage in peaceful dialogue dialogue as soon as possible.
With tensions remaining highly charged in the Middle East region, Pakistan’s stance reflects growing concern among regional states regarding unilateral military actions and the need for multilateral approaches to alleviate long-standing tensions in this part of the world.
